Carl Nassib’s Coming Out Highlights LGBTQ Resources – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Many across the country are still talking about NFL player Carl Nassib announcing he is gay on social media.

Nassib then donated $ 100,000 to The Trevor Project, which the NFL matched. The Trevor Project is an organization that provides suicide prevention resources and assistance for LGBTQ youth.

“Studies have shown that it only takes one accepting adult to reduce the risk of an LGBTQ child attempting suicide by 40%. Whether you are a friend, parent, coach or teammate, you can be that person, ”Nassib said in his announcement.

LGBTQ advocates say the announcement goes beyond the sporting milestone and gives much-needed attention to organizations like the Trevor Project.

Resource Center, based in Dallas, offers help to LGBTQ youth in North Texas.

“Coming out is a very individual process. It doesn’t always happen the same for everyone, ”said Rafael McDonnell, Communications and Advocacy Manager for the Resource Center. “At the Resource Center, we have resources for people who are working through the exit process. It’s different for each person and if someone is trying to figure out the best way to do it, we can definitely help in that regard.
