2022 Local Working Group Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) | New

The Blackford County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will host a meeting of the 2022 Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) Local Working Group at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 25 as that meeting of Microsoft teams. This is due to COVID-19. Karen Kitterman of the Blackford County Soil and Water Conservation District will help lead the group through the process of setting local priorities the group needs. We hope the meeting will be adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

Across the state of Indiana, public meetings of local task forces are scheduled to discuss local priorities of the EQIP to make ranking criteria recommendations for fiscal year 2022 to the State Curator of the State of Indiana. NRCS. Priorities are used by the National Chief of the NRCS to allocate the EQIP funds available to state curators. The state curator, with advice from the state technical committee, identifies priority natural resource concerns in the state that will be used to help orient applicants who will receive EQIP assistance.

After identifying priority natural resource concerns, the state conservator decides how funds will be allocated, what practices will be offered, what payment rates will be, and the ranking process used to prioritize contracts. The designated local ecologist, with advice from local task forces, tailors the state’s program to local conditions. As a result, the EQIP may be different between states and even between counties. Selecting eligible conservation practices and developing a ranking process to assess claims are the final steps in the EQIP process. Applications are ranked based on a number of factors, including the environmental benefits and cost effectiveness of the proposal.

The list of resource issues to be prioritized and last year’s ranking list will be available at the meeting. This list is the same for all counties in the state and the priorities will diversify the ranking criteria. Each local working group should rank from 1 to 10 (1 being the highest priority) these categories on the list for EQIP. No more than 10 priorities in total for EQIP.
