Workshops will present available state and federal resources

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) will host a series of three virtual small business resources workshops to present information on the resources available to support the growth of small businesses in the state. The workshops will take place during National Small Business Week (NSBW), which runs September 13-17 and connects business owners with the people and information they need to start or grow their business in keeping in mind their long-term resilience. we are emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The hour-long workshops will provide small businesses, startups and nonprofits the opportunity to connect with government officials, small business advocates, lenders and financial advisors who will offer their expertise in areas of interest such as: financial resources; how to properly register a business in New Jersey; how to certify a business as owned by women, minorities or veterans; and ways to access available technical assistance, federal resources, and mentoring opportunities free of charge, among other relevant topics.
“We encourage small business owners to take the opportunity offered by these free virtual workshops to network with other small business entrepreneurs and learn about the resources available from small business partners and various government entities. NJEDA CEO Tim Sullivan said. “In keeping with Governor Murphy’s commitment to building a stronger and fairer New Jersey economy, these workshops will help small business owners take the next step on the path to starting, growing or sustaining their business. , with the ultimate goal of building successful businesses that make their communities stronger and more resilient.

In addition to NJEDA staff, panelists will include representatives from the US Small Business Administration (SBA), New Jersey Small Business Development Center (SBDC), SCORE, New Jersey Business Action Center (BAC), New Jersey Department of Treasury, New Jersey Taxation Division and local Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFIs).
“Small business ownership can be difficult under the best of circumstances, and these workshops will help ensure entrepreneurs understand the financial, technical and educational resources available to them,” said State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio. “They will also help raise awareness of recent steps taken by the state to alleviate some of the obstacles to building a stable and sustainable business, including the Treasury’s decision to waive certification fees as a small, minority , female or veteran. Workshop participants will give a two-minute introduction, then participate in a small group session to discuss further about their organization and what it has to offer. There will be three breakout sessions: one for SBA, SBDC and SCORE; one for the BAC, Treasury and Taxation; and one for CDFI. Local service providers and lender representatives will also attend each workshop to present information about their technical assistance services and resources.
