HUDSON – The annual Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District Tree Sale has begun. This sale offers bare root plants at low cost to local residents to benefit our environment and wildlife. All plants are sold bare rooted (not potted). Information and order forms available at www.ccswcd.org. The order deadline is April 1, 2022. Plants are ready for pick-up April 29-30. It’s first come, first served, so be sure to order soon for a better selection. Supplies are limited. Pickup from Columbia County Soil & Water Conservation District, 1024 Route 66, Ghent.

HUDSON — The Hudson Area Library, 51 North Fifth St., Hudson, celebrates Chinese New Year with a 4-6 p.m. program on Feb. 1. Make dumplings and a paper lantern while listening to a story about how children in China celebrate the holiday. All ages are welcome to attend this program in the Community Hall. STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. – The Berkshire Botanical Garden, 5 West Stockbridge Road, Stockbridge, presents the Ecology Lecture Series: Iconic Massachusetts Birds and Their Habitats, online, 6:30-7:30 p.m. February 2. With a wide range of habitats, this talk will include a captivating slideshow and discussion from a longtime naturalist with a passion for birds. CANAAN — The Ice Fishing Derby, sponsored by the Chatham Lions Club, will take place from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 5 on Queechy Lake in Canaan. Adults, $15; children 15 and under, $5. Cash prizes for first, second and third place; four categories of fish; $1,000 in raffle equipment; 50/50 raffle. NORTH CHATHAM – The North Chatham Library will host Green Your Home with Heat Pumps from 6-7:15 p.m. on February 8 via Zoom. Tara Donadio of the Capital Region HeatSmart will discuss air and geothermal heat pump technology and whether it is right for your home. HeatSmart Capital Region is a community awareness, education and group buying campaign funded by the New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and managed by the Capital District Regional Planning Commission. The campaign supports building energy efficiency and the adoption of energy-efficient air source heat pumps, geothermal systems and hot water heat pumps for cold climates, and includes information on tax credits and incentives for households to low income.
