The importance of water conservation in the current scenario was explained to farmers during a program held at PKR Arts College for Women in Gobichettipalayam here on Wednesday.
ICAR KVK MYRADA organized the Kisan Mela under the direction of Jal Shakti Abhiyan with the theme “Catch the rain, where it falls and when it falls”. P. Alagesan, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, explained the overview of the program while NR Nagaraj, President of Gobichettipalayam Municipality, talked about water conservation and its importance in the current scenario.
S. Chinnasamy, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Erode, highlighted rainwater harvesting and water conservation in agriculture using drip irrigation systems. N. Ezhili, College Principal, and Kumerasan, Branch Manager, Fullerton India also spoke.
Valliyammai, Professor at the Center for Water Technology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, spoke about the importance of micro-irrigation systems and water conservation techniques. G. Subramanian, Assistant Engineer, Agricultural Engineering Department, highlighted the available schemes for water conservation techniques.
College students participated in speech and poster contests on rainwater harvesting, water conservation, and community water management. The winners received diplomas. An exhibition was organized by KVK on agriculture, drip irrigation and drone technology. A demonstration of fertilizer spraying using a drone was also carried out during the program.
