Educational resources for students |

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — As kids head back to school, supplies are important to help them get off to a strong start. Educational resources are also essential to support students at home.

Experts at Google have tools to help children grasp new lessons during the school year.

Students can gain a deeper understanding of history or geography lessons by using Google’s Virtual Field Trips. If there is a difficult math concept, students scan and type the math equation into the search bar. They will not only get the answer, but also get an explanation on how to fix the problem.

There is even a resource for young learners. “One of my favorites is something we just launched called read along“, said Google technology expert Peter Du. “It helps young students learning to read. It puts a little storybook on the page. It will say the sentences, and if you get stuck on a word… it will help you say what it’s all about. It will help you learn what you’re saying and correct yourself along the way.

There are also resources like Freckles.comwhich is a free site that offers activities in math, English, social studies and science.

Another useful site is Khan Academy, which is ideal for older students. The site offers resources on advanced topics such as calculus, AP courses, and event test prep.
